Hospice
at May Court
In
1997, the May Court Club of Ottawa, faced with provincial government
regulations and escalating costs, made a very difficult decision
and closed its convalescent home for women, a much valued institution
in the community. The club then set about to find a use for the
facility in keeping with its mandate to service others.
After exploring several possibilities
The May Court Club of Ottawa entered into a purchase of service
agreement with the then Hospice at All Saints, giving the hospice
use of the building, at no charge, and sufficient ongoing funding
for its maintenance and upkeep. Hospice at All Saints renamed itself
Hospice at May Court. Although, from time to time, confusion has
arisen as to the relationship between these two separate organizations,
it has been a remarkably successful partnership for both: The May
Court Club of Ottawa sees its facility used as an important community
outreach, and its members volunteer both at the hospice reception
desk and, with training, in its palliative aspects. Hospice at May
Court has a securely funded, serene and attractive home in which
to provide compassionate care and support for individuals and their
families. The May Court Club is pleased that, in this way, its commitment
to others in the community is extended.

The Hospice at May Court provides support and care for people diagnosed
with a life-threatening illness and for their families. The hospice
is located at 114 Cameron Avenue, Ottawa, ON K1S 0X1. For more information
